This surplice's base fabric is 100% linen. The linen is a "fine linen", meaning, medium-light weight and greater quality than normal garment grade linen. The trim is a airy, lightweight lace. This piece has an area with very light stains and an area with a wax stain to be viewed in the video. Also, it has a mended tear in the upper shoulder (approx. a cm long.) The piece, being of fine linen content, is worth the imperfections. A surplice with this type of linen normally retails in the $300s. I was able to aquire this piece, give it some TLC, and apply new lace to offer it at reduced rate. Even if the lace isn't to your preferred, the linen part alone is worth the price (and different lace can be applied.) Pure Linen Surplice, refurbished
Linen is the traditional fabric for surplices and albs. It has a signature drape, crease, and texture -often imitated in other fabrics but never matched. It's ablilty to forever retain an impeccable crease also means it wrinkles easily and maintains those wrinkles to an almost frustrating degree. Despite the wrinkles (or maybe because they distinguish the unmistakable linen content) linen pieces are aesthetically rich.
