FAQ

Shipping

Shipping fees consist of a flat rate of $6.00 per order, regardless of the number of veils in a given order. As Saint Raphael grows, that offer may increase. For now, take advantage of it!

Orders will be shipped on Fridays. Orders placed by Wednesday 5:00pm Central Time in a given week will be shipped that Friday of the same week. Orders placed after 5:00pm will be shipped the Friday of the following week.

I will make exceptions for the month of December to get orders shipped within three days of an order.

Returns and Refunds

At this time in which Saint Raphael is in its budding stage, we cannot offer returns or refunds. All items are hand made and slight imperfections are an expected hallmark of such. Thank you for supporting small business and your understanding in that regard.

Sizing

We do our best to describe each veil's qualities such as weight, type of lace and size.  Sizes vary even within the given ranges due to the handmade nature of  them. In general the sizes fall into a few categories:

Short = falls anywhere from the base of the head to the top of the shoulder blades

Classic = falls around the bottom of the shoulder blades

Long = falls anywhere from just-above the bra strap to just-below the bra strap

Shawl = falls to the waist and is two yards across the front edge (as opposed to the standard St. Raphael length across the front of 1.5 yards)

Veil stock

Some veils are custom one-of-a-kind, and others may be offered again until its particular lace runs out. I enjoy finding beautiful remnant laces which are typically less expensive, however, remnants only provide enough material to produce one or two veils of that particular lace. The upside is that the purchaser enjoys exclusivity! We offer new selections generally every couple of  months. Please contact us with questions or requests if you see a veil that has sold and want to request it for next month's lottery

Veil Names

Honoring the myriad of saints and externally reinforcing the liturgical calendar is  the impetus for naming our veils.  Most laces seem to reflect an obvious connection to their patron through color, design, or aesthetic. There is much overlap among the charisms of the saints, so by no means are the names static; feel free to "rename" your veil and share with us your insight!

Veil Specs

The "front edge" of the veil  is the distance that runs across the forehead.  The "length" is the distance from the forehead (middle of the front edge) down the back of the head to the bottom of the veil. See Veil Sizing for the size categories.

Veil Parts

What all goes into a veil that explains the range of prices?

Laces come in a  wide range of price tags to begin with. Typically, white lace, found in bridal sections of store, is the most expensive.  Heavily embroidered laces are also typically more expensive but not always. An embroidery machine is required for the edging and embroidery machines are more expensive than plain sewing machines.  Some laces call for a front edge trim and trims drive up the price.  A stabilizer, which is a tearaway paper, is required for sewing such delicate  fabric as lace and is another component adding to price. Lots of embroidery thread is required for the satin stitch scallop across the bottom edge and embroidery thread is more expensive than all-purpose thread. All veils come standard with a small comb clip.  Heavy and shawl veils come with two clips which help to support the weight and reduced shifting. Some laces are much easier to sew which affords a much quicker production. Custom veils with piecing and with Catholic monograms take considerably more time and time drives price.
